Choosing The Right Clutch For The Job
There’s a lot to consider when choosing the right DESCH product for your specific application.
Conditions
From environmental exposure to system constraints, the right solution must align with how your equipment runs.
Key factors to assess include:
- Normal operating torque
- Peak torque and overload conditions
- Operating speed
Application Requirements
The key is not where they’re used, but how they perform in your application.
When evaluating use cases, consider:
- Need for mechanical switching
- Requirement for overload protection
- Required torque setting
Clutch Type
DESCH offers two Conax® designs for different operating requirements.
Our options include:
- CM: Mechanically actuated friction clutch
- CR: Slipping clutch
- CM: 100–5,000 Nm torque range
- CR: 60–24,000 Nm torque range

Maintain For Longevity
While DESCH products are engineered for long-term performance, appropriate maintenance helps protect reliability, extend service life, and prevent avoidable downtime.
- Install and adjust the clutch according to DESCH specifications
- Inspect friction linings regularly for wear
- Verify the torque setting, particularly on slipping-clutch applications
- Monitor operating temperature and signs of excessive slipping
- Inspect the clutch following overload or blockage events
